Derek Watson
Coach Watson is entering his 26th year serving in public education for the state of Texas. Coach
Watson currently serves as an assistant football and assistant baseball coach for the Madisonville
Mustangs. Prior to arriving in Madisonville, Coach Watson held positions at Midway, Lexington,
Robinson and Timber Creek High School. During these stints, Coach Watson has coached
defensive ends, linebackers and secondary on the defensive side of the ball, while also handling
running backs and receivers on the offensive side. In baseball, his first head coaching opportunity
came at Lexington High School and he has served as a head baseball coach for 19 seasons prior to
finding Madisonville. During his tenure at Robinson, the Rockets finished as football State Runner
Up in 2006. In Baseball, his teams have won district a number of times and reached as far as the
Regional Semi-Finals while at 6A Timber Creek High School.
Coach Watson and Coach Reeves have been blessed to serve Madisonville High School. Coach
Watson attended McLennan Community College where he had the opportunity to play in the Junior
College All-Star Game and then continued his education and playing career at the University of Mary
Hardin-Baylor. He also earned his Master’s Degree from Texas Wesleyan University. Coach
Watson teaches U.S. History, Government and Economics for the Mustangs.
